Bout #1
Michael Parker Vs Leo Sylvest
Due to inclement weather conditions in the Chicagoland area, Leo Sylvest, a
moonlighting MMA fighter, could not make the trip. This fight did not happen.
Bout #2
Ed Ochoa Vs Fred Thomas
WHAT A FIGHT!!! From bell to bell for three rounds, this was a fight that will
be talked about for YEARS to come in Merrillville boxing lore. Ed Ochoa was
supposed to be fighting Fred Thomas, the winless wonder. Instead, he got
Fred Thomas, the winless wonder with a chin of concrete and a heart the
size of the state of Iowa. They traded knockdowns in the first round, after
Ochoa owned the majority of first round action. The second round shows
Thomas trying to set up a comeback, actually resorting to THROWING
Ochoa across the ring into the corner! Ochoa's skills and heart, however,
kept his head in the fight, and he easily took the round. Round three was
also won by Ochoa, as he scored two knockdowns (one sent Thomas out of
the ring) and the other required an eight count. After all this action, Thomas
simply would not give up. . . he continued to throw big bombs, and even
wobbled Ochoa at one point. A minute into the fourth, Ochoa turns it on and
scores another big knockdown, and Thomas gets up at "eight". This
prompts Ochoa to throw a massive right uppercut that sends Thomas' head
spinning. The ref calls the fight at 2:01 of RD 4.
Bout #3
Derrick Findley Vs Nathan Martin
*Findley uses his massive strength to pound Martin to the body again and
again. By midway through the second round, Martin takes a knee, spits out
his mouthpiece, but is up at the count of five. Twenty seconds later, a
Findley left hook to the ribs sends him to the canvas again, and again the
mouthpiece hits the mat, only this time, the referee calls a halt to the action.
FINDLEY TKO2 (2:13)
Bout #4
Evette Collazo Vs Kim Colbert
This was not a fight. This was a professional boxer trying to get more
experience. . .but was unfortunately paired up with a clown. Kim Colbert
fought with one arm behind her back, continuously hit low, stuck out her
tongue, and shook her head all the way to a disgusting display of
pseudo-boxing. God Bless Evette Collazo and her corner for staying
focused in her goal to win the fight. A no-brainer UD4 COLLAZO.
Bout #5 Co-Main Event
Jimmy Holmes Vs Tyrone Dowdy
When this fight was waved off by the ref, the most ironic thing happened.
Tyrone Dowdy went over to hug the victor, Jimmy Holmes. The ironic aspect
to this is that hugging is exactly why the fight was called in the first place.
Holmes, to his credit, tried to make this into a boxing match, but Dowdy was
more interested in hugging, holding, and complaining about blows to the
back of his head. His style had to be very frustrating for Holmes, but not as
frustrating as it was for referee Kurt Spivey. He had to constantly remind
Dowdy to stop holding, more than once offering a "last warning", then
making good on it finally at 1:53 of the fourth round. HOLMES DQ4 (1:53)
Bout #6 Main Event
Michael Walker Vs Jerome Elder
Jerome Elder came into this fight 9-15, and left 9-16. Walker landed a huge
left hook to the body that sent Elder to the canvas. He got up, but was
quickly sent down again, and this time, the referee waved the fight off. It
happened, oddly enough, just as the bell rang for the end of the round.
Walker has been calling out Ronald Hearns for a fight later this summer.
We'd love to see this fight, and Walker deserves the exposure with a name
opponent.
